Ahmad Leong

  Ahmad Leong, a Sino-Murut from Keningau, Sabah, embarked on his artistic odyssey with a foundation in photography and graphic design. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Photography from Southern Illinois University, USA, and a Diploma in Graphic Design from the Institute Technology MARA, Malaysia. His career began soon after completing secondary school in Keningau, when he joined the Sabah State Information Department as a press photographer. Ahmad later expanded his expertise as a commercial photographer and senior visualizer with an advertising agency in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 marked a turning point in Ahmad’s creative evolution.
During mandatory home quarantine, he discovered a passion for drawing, leading him
to experiment with intricate charcoal pencil techniques. This exploration combined
realism and surrealism, capturing a sense of wonder and mystery.

Renowned for his meticulous attention to detail, Ahmad crafts textured, multidimensional works that invite viewers to uncover the hidden narratives within. His mastery of line work and cross-hatching brings texture and movement to life, skillfully bridging the realms of reality and imagination. His art serves as more than just a visual experience—it delves into profound emotions and ideas, offering a deep connection beneath the surface.
